Many session replay platforms started as web tools and either still don’t offer mobile or mobile was added on later.
This is an issue for a few reasons:
Poor performance: Tools that were built for the web often have laggier video playback and weaker gesture capture (i.e., they miss swipes, drop multi-touch actions) when applied to mobile. You end up watching a replay that doesn’t quite match what the user actually did, so eventually you’ll end up missing important actions that are causing friction.
Platform coverage: Many session replay tools only support iOS and Android, but not cross-platform frameworks like Flutter or React Native. They also tend to be slow in adapting to new versions of the frameworks they do support.
SDK weight: A lot of mobile SDKs are 2-3 MB, which is quite heavy when you have to keep things lightweight for good mobile performance and are trying to juggle 10 to 20 SDKs without affecting the user experience (e.g., slow load times for the user, app crashes).

In order for session recordings to be useful, you need to be able to filter and tie them to specific user actions or events.
Here are a couple of examples:
Looking at a conversion funnel, you see a drop-off on a specific page, wonder why, and look to session recordings for the answer. Event analytics > session recordings
You notice in one user’s session that when they clicked on the pay button, they were shown an error page, and you want to know if that’s an isolated event or if it’s happening for all users on all devices. So, you filter the session recordings by error pages. Session recording > event-based filtering
But how those event analytics were built into the platform is important. Most platforms started with event analytics and added session recordings later, which is an issue for a few reasons:
A developer has to code the event before you can track it, which is often quite time-consuming.
You can’t filter or track past session recordings by the event you just set up. So, not only do you have to wait on the developer to set up the event for you, but you’re also losing data in the meantime.
The session replay feature is an additional SDK that was bolted on later, and multiple SDKs often lead to issues like more bugs and data getting lost between session recordings and other features. What this might look like in the examples above is not seeing the failed button click right before the user dropped off or miscounting the number of users that got the error screen.
At UXCam, we took the opposite approach and built everything on top of the session replays, which means:
You capture everything automatically from day one. You can also choose to record only some sessions for privacy or data storage reasons.
A non-technical person can create a trackable event just by clicking on something they see in an already-recorded session, no code required.

When it comes to GDPR requirements and your company policies regarding data privacy, there are a few things to look for.
With many tools, you’ll either have to use a wireframe representation of each screen instead of full screenshots (more on this in the next section) or manually mark each area of the UI that needs to be masked, which is not only tedious but leaves more room for error.

There are two main ways to capture a session recording: screenshots or wireframes.
Screenshots produce a video-like recording that shows everything the user saw, including graphics/images, text, and colors. This makes it easier to identify friction points and improve the user experience, but it produces larger files.
Wireframes use generic icons and shapes to indicate the various pieces of the UI. This is lighter weight and, as discussed above, is the only option some platforms offer for masking sensitive data. But it sometimes misses animations or custom UI elements.
Some tools only offer one or the other, but we let you choose either one for all supported frameworks.
Many product analytics platforms charge extra if you need help with onboarding, tutorials on more advanced setups, and ongoing technical or live support calls. This can add up fast, especially if the tool is complicated to set up (like many event-based tools are).
And some platforms charge separately for different features or group different features by tiers, which may leave you paying extra for things you don’t need just to get the basics that you do need.

When you open Sessions, you’ll land on a page with two tabs. The first is a list of each recording.

The second is the analytics tab that allows you to zoom out and identify patterns in user recordings and keep tabs on things like overall session health, volume over time, recurring issues, and more.
With both tabs, you can apply nearly any filter you want. The most common filters like session duration, rage taps, or location are built-in, but you can also create custom filters based on unique identifiers or specific actions.

You can also simply describe the type of filter you want or the question you have, and our AI assistant, Tara, will create the necessary filter for you.
At the top of the session replay screen, you’ll see a customizable header that you can configure to display anything, from the user’s device to their location to custom events that you create.

Along the bottom of the screen is the playback toolbar and a color-coded session timeline. Rage taps, UI freezes, and any custom event you create are all marked so you can jump straight to the moments that you care about. The settings button allows you to change the playback speed and toggle on the skip inactivity feature, which automatically skips moments when the user is reading, distracted, or not directly interacting with your app.

You’ll also see forward and backward buttons, which allow you to skip to other sessions performed by that same user without going back to the list.
To the right of the replay, there are two tabs:
User journey, which includes every session for that user written out with timestamps
Properties, which includes all user details including device, network and location, time, and custom user properties.

Finally, you can easily leave comments for your team that stay attached to the session recording, download the recording, share a link with anyone (with options for controlled access such as whether they’ll be required to sign in or not), and create a Jira ticket — all from right within the session replay screen.

Contentsquare acquired Heap and Hotjar, and both are now part of its broader platform. Hotjar’s plans now route through Contentsquare, while Heap still maintains its own site and pricing.
The platform brings together Hotjar's qualitative tools (heatmaps, session recordings, surveys), Heap's product analytics with retroactive event capture, and Contentsquare's enterprise behavioral analytics and new AI features. While it supports mobile, the main focus is web apps.
The free tier is unusually generous, with autocapture for up to 200,000 analyzed sessions per month and up to 10,000 session replay captures.
However, many teams find that it has a steep learning curve.

Amplitude is an event analytics platform at its core, with features such as event tracking, event segmentation, funnels, retention, cohorts, and user-journey analysis. Amplitude added Session Replay after its core analytics tools, launching it for web applications before expanding to mobile. It's now generally available and integrated with Amplitude Analytics, so you can move between quantitative data and the replays behind it.
Once set up, Amplitude is a powerful platform. But like any event-based tool, software engineers can spend months setting it up only to realize they haven’t quite done it right and aren’t capturing the behaviors that matter.
Amplitude bases its pricing on events rather than sessions, so the bill tends to follow instrumentation maturity rather than customer count.

Fullstory is a behavioral data platform best known for high-fidelity session replay, paired with product analytics, funnels, heatmaps, and frustration signals. Its "Fullcapture" technology logs every click, scroll, and page mutation without manual event tagging, so you can retroactively analyze data and answer questions you didn't know you had when the data was collected.
Founded in Atlanta in 2014 by a team out of Google, Fullstory grew up analyzing websites. It supports mobile, but mobile capture sits on paid plans, and the platform's focus is web. Its StoryAI layer uses Google's Gemini and Vertex AI to surface rage clicks, form errors, and friction across sessions automatically.
Fullstory uses a session-based pricing model.

Microsoft Clarity is a free session replay and heatmap tool. It started on web and later expanded into mobile, with SDKs now covering Android, iOS, Flutter, and React Native. Rather than capturing actual video, its mobile SDK reconstructs walkthrough-style session replays from low-level drawing commands.
For zero cost, the feature list is surprisingly deep: tap heatmaps, rage/dead tap flags for spotting friction, device and OS-level segmentation, and AI-written session summaries. Setup is simple enough that most teams are up and running the same day.
The catch shows up in a few places:
Dev tools: Clarity doesn’t provide replay-level console logs. It includes built-in crash/error analytics on Android and can link replays to Firebase Crashlytics for more detailed crash reports.
Compliance and support: There's no paid support tier to fall back on. Teams with HIPAA or enterprise governance requirements should confirm whether Clarity’s controls and terms meet their needs.
Shared data: Microsoft says it doesn't sell the data Clarity collects, but Microsoft and Clarity can access it. Teams should review the applicable terms and privacy statement before implementation.

LogRocket is a session replay tool built for developers that also includes some UX analytics features like heatmaps, clickmaps, and scrollmaps. It includes DOM playback, console and network logs, and performance monitoring (e.g., Core Web Vitals, CPU usage), all synced to the exact moments when they occurred in the recording.
It covers mobile through native iOS and Android SDKs, plus React Native and Flutter. However, feature support varies by platform, with some web features unavailable on mobile. Galileo, its AI layer, watches sessions and automatically surfaces friction and technical issues. Teams can turn flagged issues into Jira tickets, track pull requests through GitHub, or dispatch Cursor or Claude agents.
LogRocket prices based on monthly session volume rather than events. Its current pricing page advertises a 14-day free trial, while unlimited seats are listed as an Enterprise feature.

Datadog is a digital experience monitoring tool built for engineers with an extensive suite of tools that cover infrastructure management, app performance, data monitoring, and log management.
They support iOS and Android and offer features specifically for mobile application monitoring including performance optimization reports, crash alerts and investigation tools, and user journey recording of every tap, swipe, and scroll.
Mobile Session Replay is part of Datadog RUM rather than a standalone replay-only product.

PostHog is a developer-first platform that bundles session replay alongside product analytics, feature flags, error tracking, and experiments. Mobile replay covers native iOS and Android, React Native, and Flutter, though PostHog is upfront that web has the most complete feature support. Native iOS and Android use wireframe mode by default and can switch to screenshot mode, while React Native and Flutter always use screenshot mode. Mobile replay also doesn’t capture keyboard input.
Mobile recordings include console logs and network monitoring, so engineers can trace an issue without leaving the recording. However, the DOM explorer is only available for web recordings. AI-generated session summaries surface key moments automatically, so you're not stuck watching every session start to finish.
Pricing is usage-based, with web and mobile recordings billed separately. The free tier includes 5,000 web recordings and 2,500 mobile recordings per month. The cost per recording decreases as volume increases, and pricing is not seat-based.

Sentry is focused mostly on error monitoring and observability, so session replay just supports those features. Coverage spans web and mobile (Android, iOS, React Native, Flutter), with replay running on both UIKit and SwiftUI.
Like most of these tools, session recordings are tied to crash reports, network requests, and console entries, so engineers can see both what the user saw and what the app was doing behind the scenes. By default, mobile replay masks all text, images, and user input at the device level before anything leaves it, and Sentry offers a DPA covering GDPR/CCPA for replay data.
Pricing is usage-based and billed per replay alongside Sentry's other event types (errors, spans, logs), with a free developer tier and new users getting 5,000 free replays a month for their first three months before standard quota pricing kicks in.

Embrace is a mobile-first observability platform that also supports web apps and combines crash reporting, ANR detection, network monitoring, real user monitoring, and user timelines. User timelines provide a detailed overview of a user’s session, but they aren’t video-like playbacks. Embrace says they serve a similar purpose and capture 100% of user sessions without sampling.
They support most mobile frameworks including Unity, and they tend to serve larger, mobile-first engineering teams rather than startups.
